Transfers and flight all went smoothly, but Nairobi ... Well, what can I say ...
40% unemployment. Says it all really. Rubbish strewn streets, lots of people hanging around on the footpaths, lots selling odd bits of second hand clothing, or home grown vegetables just trying to make a bit of money. Alcohol and drugs a huge problem, traffic a nightmare with road rules ignored. Crime rates astronomical. Public buildings, roads and footpaths and public parks in disrepair and neglected.
Our hotel/casino/resort complex is luxurious in contrast and understandably enclosed behind tight security - there was even a further security guard posted outside our rooms. Nice accommodation though: we experienced our first ever four poster bed fully enclosed with mosquito netting! My goodness though - the mattress was hard.
