Had no idea at the start of the day what was ahead of us. I'm reflecting on it 2 days later and all I remember is disillusionment. 270 km ... A piece of cake we thought ... But it took 10 hours. Most of it on the main Nairobi to Mombasa road, which is only 2 lanes and packed with heavy trucks. The final two hours was on spine shattering corrugated dirt roads.
The day started well though: a one hour boat trip on Lake Naivasha, a large canoe type thing that floated through the shallows among wallowing hippos.
They're so pink and gentle looking, but apparently they are considered more dangerous than lions. They kill more people than lions do!
